More than a decade after a fatal incident shook the community, a man was remanded to prison on Monday in connection with the 2015 murder of Nephi Noel.

Kanand Ojha appeared before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 21, 2026, to face a charge of murder.
Ojha was arrested three days prior, on Friday, September 18, by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters. During the court appearance, he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. Chief Magistrate Latchman ordered that he be remanded to prison, and the matter was adjourned to October 12, 2026.
The charge stems from the death of Nephi Noel, which occurred on July 22, 2015. Law enforcement pursued the cold case, ultimately leading to Ojha’s apprehension and the formal initiation of court proceedings this week.
