Two laborers, Khemraj Persaud, known as ‘Kato’, aged 20 and hailing from Parika Facade, East Bank Essequibo, and Ganguly Rambarran, a 24-year-old laborer from Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, were apprehended on September 4, 2023. They were jointly charged on September 7, 2023, for the murder of Ravi Ramrattan, a resident of Parika. The crime took place between September 1 and September 2, 2023.
The two accused individuals made their appearance at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul, where they were formally charged with the offense of murder under common law. They did not enter a plea and were remanded to prison. The case has been scheduled for a report on October 19, 2023.
In terms of background, a Post-Mortem Examination with dissection was conducted earlier in the week by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehal Singh on the body of the 47-year-old victim, Ravi Ramrattan, known as ‘Socks.’ The cause of death was determined to be ‘multiple incise wounds.’ Ramrattan’s lifeless body was discovered on September 2, 2023, in the vicinity of Lotus Mall in Parika, East Bank Essequibo. His body was found lying on its back and dressed in long black pants, a black jersey, and a reddish bath towel wrapped around it. Examination of the body revealed chop wounds, and a bedsheet, seemingly stained with blood, was found nearby.
