Truck Driver Charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving in Madewini Incident

In a significant legal development, Rameshwar Perssud, a 27-year-old truck driver hailing from Farm Track Madewini, faced charges today for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
The proceedings took place at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman, where Persaud entered a plea of not guilty. Subsequently, he was placed on bail set at one million, five hundred thousand dollars ($1,500,000).
The charges stem from an incident on November 16th, 2023, at approximately 18:15 hrs, where Persaud is accused of causing the death of 63-year-old pedestrian Arnold De Santos.
The fatality occurred during the reversing of a motor lorry (GA 7213) on Farm Track (access road) in Madewini, East Bank Demerara. Legal proceedings will now unfold as the case progresses through the judicial system.
