Tragic Incident at Beterverwagting Roadblock Claims the Life of Dedicated Officer
Last night, a devastating incident unfolded at the Beterverwagting Police Station‘s roadblock, resulting in the untimely death of Woman Constable 25953 Annette Abel. Constable Abel, a 53-year-old committed officer from the Beterverwagting Traffic Department, suffered fatal injuries while on duty.
Around 22:00 hrs, a speeding Jeep collided with the roadblock, driven by Fitzroy Aulder. Aulder, identified as the responsible party for the tragic event, was found to be two times above the legal limit in a breathalyzer test. Disregarding a red traffic signal, the vehicle crashed into traffic cones, setting off a chain reaction.

In this tragic incident:
Woman Inspector Shenay Castello commanded the roadblock, supported by fellow officers.
The Jeep collided with traffic cones, spiraling out of control. The vehicle struck Woman Constable Abel, resulting in the severance of her left foot below the knee. Additionally, motor cars PAB 9932 and PNN 8124 were involved in the collision.
Woman Inspector Castello and another individual, Chris Allen, were flung into the air, sustaining injuries.
Despite the efforts of Emergency Medical Technicians, Woman Constable Abel was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the Jeep and Woman Inspector Castello were transported to Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention.
The Guyana Police Force deeply mourns the tragic loss of Woman Constable Annette Abel and extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. The investigation remains ongoing under the supervision of Regional Commander 4‘C’ Assistant Commissioner Khali Pareshram.
