Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Life of 30-Year-Old Man in Mashabo Lake, Essequibo Coast”

In a devastating turn of events, 30-year-old Ron Raphael of Mashabo Village, Essequibo Coast, lost his life in a drowning incident at Mashabo Lake on Friday, November 24, 2023, between 12:30 and 13:00 hours.
Raphael, last seen bathing approximately 30 feet out in the lake around noon, had earlier been observed consuming alcohol in the village. The tragic incident unfolded when a relative, who had seen Raphael bathing earlier, noticed his sudden disappearance. Concerned for his well-being, the relative bravely entered the water in search of him.
After a harrowing 10 minutes, the relative located Raphael’s lifeless body and brought him ashore. The Essequibo Coast Police were summoned to the scene, where they observed no marks of violence on the victim’s body.
The circumstances leading to the drowning are under investigation, with authorities considering factors such as alcohol consumption and the remote location of the incident.
