For the horrific crime of raping a woman at knifepoint, Berbice High Court Judge Sandil Kissoon has sentenced Dinesh Seepersaud, also known as “Quicksilver, ” to life in prison. The verdict, delivered on Thursday, mandates that Seepersaud must serve a minimum of 14 years before becoming eligible for parole.

The 42-year-old Corentyne resident had previously pleaded guilty to the charge, which specified that he engaged in sexual penetration without the woman’s consent. In addition to the heinous act, Seepersaud admitted to breaking into the victim’s residence and stealing $42,000. For this burglary, he received a separate five-year prison sentence.
Both offenses transpired between November 20 and November 21, 2020, marking two distressing incidents within a short timeframe. The court ruled that these sentences will run concurrently, ensuring that Seepersaud serves the terms simultaneously.
According to the prosecution’s account, Seepersaud forcibly entered the woman’s residence, brandishing a knife, and subjected her to a traumatic assault before fleeing with the stolen cash. State Counsel Muntaz Ali diligently prosecuted the case.
Attorney-at-Law Surihya Sabsook represented Seepersaud during the legal proceedings. The sentencing reflects the severity of the crimes committed, as the court aims to uphold justice and protect the community from individuals engaged in such egregious acts of violence.
