“It was downright disappointing to hear a former Chief of Staff criticize the brave and hardworking officers and soldiers of the GDF who are currently deployed on the borders in defense of our sovereignty, ” remarked Prime Minister Phillips.

The criticism also targeted President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Guyana, who recently visited the soldiers on the border with Venezuela. The former Chief of Staff accused the President of engaging in a ‘photo op’ and lacking sensitivity, among other allegations.

In response, Prime Minister Phillips urged Guyanese citizens to adopt a ‘whole of country’ approach to address the existential threat facing the nation. He emphasized the importance of unity and patriotism, urging against using threats to sovereignty as an opportunity for scoring political points.

“NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO USE THE THREATS TO OUR SOVEREIGNTY TO SCORE CHEAP POLITICAL POINTS. NOW IS THE TIME TO BE PATRIOTIC! ” stated Prime Minister Phillips.

The statement underscores the need for solidarity and a collective response to safeguard Guyana’s sovereignty, especially during challenging times. The Prime Minister’s call for patriotism aims to foster a sense of national unity in the face of external threats.
