Pres. Ali: Guyana Aims to “Break Every Record” with Rapid Berbice Gas-to-Shore Pipeline by 2030

News Update

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has declared that Guyana is preparing to launch one of the fastest gas-to-shore developments ever undertaken, with plans to complete a second major gas pipeline by 2030 to power the country’s expanding industrial landscape—especially the rapid transformation underway in Berbice.

Speaking on Wednesday evening at a reception for visiting UK Parliamentarian Paulette Hamilton and the UK Trade Mission, President Ali emphasized that the project is central to Guyana’s long-term energy, manufacturing, and economic goals.

“We will have to break every single record in the world,” the President stated, underscoring the scale and urgency of the pipeline. He noted that the government intends to advance the project from conceptualisation to completion faster than similar global developments.

According to President Ali, the new gas pipeline must be operational before the end of 2030. It will link directly to the deep-water port and the broader infrastructure network currently being developed in Berbice.

What the Second Gas Pipeline Will Support

  • Major industrial expansion in Berbice
  • Petrochemical production
  • Fertiliser manufacturing
  • LNG development
  • Agro-processing and light manufacturing
  • Delivery of cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable energy
  • Strengthening Guyana’s emerging role as the region’s manufacturing hub

The project, being advanced in partnership with ExxonMobil, will complement the 300MW Wales Gas-to-Energy initiative, as well as the nationwide expansion of solar and hydropower and upgrades to Guyana’s transmission systems.

President Ali stressed that the accelerated timeline requires strong international collaboration and highlighted the United Kingdom’s consistent support. He praised the UK High Commission and the visiting trade delegation for their continued partnership in Guyana’s development trajectory.
