An unfortunate incident involving two motorcycles unfolded at approximately 00:01 hours this morning, Sunday, August 27, 2023. The location was the #11 Public Road in East Berbice. Tragically, the outcome was the loss of Rahul Thakoor, aged 19.
Two motorcycles—one with the license plate CJ 2552 and driven by the now-deceased Rahul Thakoor, a resident of Lot 19 Angoys Avenue in New Amsterdam, Berbice, and the other with the license plate CL 4458 and driven by Keon Williams, 24, of Lot 109 Fort Ordinance in East Canje, Berbice—were at the center of the incident. Accompanying Williams was pillion rider Lennox Reid, aged 18, from Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Initial inquiries revealed that both motorcycles were traveling eastward along the northern lane of the #11 Public Road at a considerable speed. Williams recounted that the deceased motorcyclist maneuvered his bike (CL 4458) and made contact with its handlebars, causing both riders to lose control.
As a result of the collision, Rahul Thakoor collided with a lamp post belonging to GPL on the northern roadside. Meanwhile, Keon Williams and Lennox Reid, the occupants of motorcycle CL 4458, were thrown onto the road, sustaining injuries in the process.

Rahul Thakoor was rendered unconscious due to the impact, while Keon Williams and Lennox Reid, although conscious, were attended to by Good Samaritans and subsequently transported to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Medical professionals evaluated their condition upon arrival.
Regrettably, Rahul Thakoor succumbed to his injuries while undergoing medical treatment. On the other hand, Keon Williams and Lennox Reid, after receiving necessary medical care, were admitted to the Accident & Emergency Unit for observation. Their conditions have been stabilized.
Both motorcycles have been impounded within the premises of the Central Police Station. They will undergo thorough examination by the License and Certifying Officer as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
