The Guyana National Reserve Annual Camp 2023 concluded on August 25, 2023, following two rigorous weeks of meaningful training, knowledge transfer, and skills enhancement. The camp officially concluded with a closing ceremony held at Base Camp Seweyo, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
This year’s iteration witnessed the participation of 260 Reservists, inclusive of 26 Officers and 234 Other Ranks, hailing from all 10 administrative regions. Unlike previous camps, Annual Camp 2023 focused on concentrated developmental training for Reservists who have been actively embodied within the Force or have consistently participated in training at their respective Drill Halls. As a result, the camp successfully met its objectives to foster the development of Reservists who embody qualities of fitness, obedience, and discipline. These attributes are essential to effectively bolstering the regular Force during peace and wartime.

Commandant Guyana National Reserve, Colonel Trevor Bowman, during brief remarks, thanked the Reservists for their service and extended congratulations on their successful completion of the training. He also reminded them of their significance to the Guyana Defence Force and charged them to lead by example by being citizens of integrity. “I want to ask, that as you leave here, you lead by example. That you continue to remain citizens of integrity, men and women of integrity. You thrive, at all times, to do your best and to live by sound moral code,” he charged.
Colonel Bowman also stressed the importance of professionalism. “I also want to ask, especially the young, to commit yourself to service, stay the course, and grow this professional body. Be professional in all you do and you will see the country that you call Guyana grow and blossom before your very eyes to be a country we can all be proud of,” he posited.
During the period, the Reservists were engaged in Drills, Fieldcraft, Skill-at-Arms, Close Country Warfare, and Disaster Risk Management training.
The camp culminated with a skills display that assessed learning throughout the camp.
