In the face of Venezuela’s ongoing threats to unlawfully annex the Essequibo region, Guyana remains resolute in its commitment to the rule of law, justice, and international conventions, according to Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall.

“Guyana stands on the side of the rule of law. We stand on the side of justice. We stand on the side of international norm. We stand on the side of international conventions and practices, ” asserted Nandlall.

Highlighting Guyana’s dedication to global peace and international diplomacy, Nandlall underscored that the country’s stance aligns with modern world concepts, garnering substantial global support from development partners, international organizations, and individual countries.

“We enjoy global support. Very few countries have come out in support of Venezuela. The United Nations—the largest organization in the world—is on our side. All the major institutions of this hemisphere are on our side, ” he emphasized.

Guyana has received unequivocal support from the 35-member Organisation of American States (OAS), the 15-member Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the 56-member Commonwealth. These entities have strongly denounced Venezuela’s aggression towards Guyana.

Reiterating that the matter was settled decades ago, Nandlall stated confidently that Venezuela has no valid case. He also brought attention to the plight of Venezuelans who, facing hardships in their home country, have sought refuge in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.

Venezuelans residing and working in Guyana, who have experienced the challenges under the Maduro regime, have joined in solidarity with Guyana. They are advocating for Venezuela to respect the rule of law and uphold Guyana’s sovereignty. As a demonstration of support, they have organized a peace rally scheduled for November 26 at the Square of the Revolution. The rally aims to reinforce the call for adherence to international norms and the preservation of regional stability.
