Enhancing Inmate Health Awareness.
A group of sixty-two (62) inmates incarcerated at Lusignan Prison recently benefited from an enlightening Health Awareness seminar. This one-day educational session was facilitated by Dr. Ravi Motilall, a consultant at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), and Dr. Sawan Jagnarain, a Public Health Practitioner and member of the Men on Mission (M.O.M) National Health Committee.

During the session, the focus was on identifying and addressing the symptoms and concerns associated with conditions such as hemorrhoids, hernia, and hydrocele. Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, emphasized the importance of these health awareness initiatives, aiming to enhance prisoners’ well-being while providing them with valuable knowledge and skills.
Director Elliot stated, “The mental and physical well-being of incarcerated individuals is a core principle of the GPS, underscoring our commitment to delivering healthcare services to prisoners.”
In addition to the healthcare professionals’ efforts, Tessa McGarrell, an officer in the Prison’s Welfare and Correctional department, reminded inmates about the significance of maintaining their overall health. She assured them of ongoing sessions and expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of Dr. Motilall and Dr. Jagnarain.
