Barrington, of 602 D Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, faced accusations of stealing an iPhone 13 valued at $285,000 from his colleague, Onesha Greaves, on January 20, 2025. He pleaded not guilty to the charge when presented in court before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.

The prosecution opposed bail, citing Barrington’s admission of guilt and remorse, although Greaves confirmed that the police had recovered the phone. She stated that Barrington had initially denied taking the phone, even when caught on camera picking it up. After police interrogation, he confessed and returned the device.

When asked if she wanted to proceed with the case, Greaves declined, expressing her desire only to have her phone back. “I know he’s young, and I hope he learns from this. Everyone makes mistakes, and I hope he doesn’t make the same one again,” she said.

Barrington expressed his gratitude for Greaves’ leniency and apologized for his actions. “I am sorry for stealing your phone, and it will never happen again,” he declared.

Chief Magistrate McGusty addressed Barrington, warning that theft could harm his future job prospects. She emphasized that while the matter was being discontinued, it would still leave a mark on his work record. She encouraged him to avoid trouble and “keep your hands to yourself.”

Following the proceedings, Barrington was released without further action.
