During the various Prison visits, the Prison Head met and held discussions with each Chairman of the respective Prison Visiting Committee, in a continuous effort to enhance operational procedures and strengthen communication within the prison system.

As part of the new initiative, the director also conducted visits to Camp Street, Lusignan, Timehri, and New Amsterdam Prisons to observe the general operation in keeping with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to ensure that the Officer-in-charge and management team are enforcing the regulations of the prison.

This allows him to actively engage with staff at all levels at various prison locations and allows for direct interaction and feedback.

The visiting committee acts as an oversight body and its mandate is to ensure that the Officer-in-charge and staff at each Prison location execute their duties within the legal framework, investigate complaints from prisoners and staff, and conduct inspection with respect to meals issued to prisoners, welfare-related matters, and general accommodation.
