In a concerted effort to address the challenges posed by an extended dry season, several communities in Region 10 were provided with a total of 210 water tanks, according to a recent report by the Guyana Chronicle. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali is in charge of the initiative, which aims to ease the water shortage that various communities have been experiencing for a while.

Approximately a week ago, President Ali visited several affected communities and made a commitment to supply water tanks as part of the solution to their water-related challenges. In fulfillment of this pledge, 100 water tanks were dispatched to the Mines for distribution to communities such as Old England-Siberia, Three Friends, Coomacka Mines, Nottinghamshire, and Mariah Elizabeth.
Additionally, 40 water tanks were sent to Ituni, 50 to #58 Miles, Mabura, 15 to #47 Miles, and five to #37 Miles. The Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works and the Political Representative for Region 10, concluded the distribution by delivering the final 10 water tanks to families at Coomacka Mines last Friday.
During the President’s visit, the issue of water access during the dry season was repeatedly raised, prompting a swift response from Minister Edghill. He assured the affected communities that the tanks would be distributed before the end of the week. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the collaborative effort involving the Minister of Housing and Water, The Hon. Collin Croal, and the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).
Minister Edghill praised Minister Croal and GWI CEO, along with their respective staff, for their diligent efforts in procuring the water tanks promptly. Logistics played a crucial role in the successful implementation of the initiative, and the Minister extended his gratitude to Councillor Sancha Halley for her support in this regard.
While emphasizing the government’s commitment to fulfilling all pledges made during the visit, Minister Edghill highlighted that the water tanks would provide temporary relief to residents until a more permanent solution, such as a well, is established to service the communities.
