12 Individuals Complete Wilderness First Responder Training in Guyana

Twelve tour guides and operators in Guyana have successfully completed a three-day Wilderness First Responder Training program. The initiative, a collaboration between the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), and the Brazilian Army, aimed to equip individuals involved in the tourism industry with essential skills for emergency situations.

First Responder Training in Guyana

The training, which targeted guides operating in the Rupununi area, covered foundational elements such as rope and knot tying, pacing techniques, compass navigation, and the construction of improvised shelters using natural elements found in the jungle. Participants also gained proficiency in crafting floating rafts, river crossing with rope assistance, sourcing water, creating fire, and identifying edible plants and fruits.

The Wilderness First Responder Training is seen as crucial for tour guides who often operate in remote areas, ensuring they are prepared to handle incidents and emergencies effectively. This initiative reflects the commitment to enhancing safety and preparedness within the local tourism sector.

In total, 30 individuals have benefited from the Wilderness First Responder Training in Guyana so far.
