Police and Regional Authorities Reassure Yarakita Residents Amidst Border Concerns

In a collaborative effort, Senior Superintendent Himnauth Sawh, Commander for Regional Police Division #1, and Regional Chairman Mr. Brentnol Ashley, joined forces with a team of police and regional officials for an Outreach exercise in Yarakita Village, North West District on Saturday.

The primary focus of the outreach was to address pressing issues and concerns raised by residents regarding the ongoing border controversy between Guyana and Venezuela. Regional Chairman Ashley emphasized the government’s commitment to a peaceful resolution, respecting international boundaries, and allowing the matter to be addressed through legal channels, such as the International Court of Justice.

Reassuring the residents, Chairman Ashley emphasized the government’s dedication to defending every part of Guyana and urged against succumbing to fear and misinformation spread by malicious actors. Commander Sawh echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude to the residents for their courage and emphasizing the importance of relying on official sources for accurate information.

The Commander urged villagers to seek information only from authorized entities like the Department of Public Information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Security Forces, cautioning against relying on social media or unauthorized channels that may promote misinformation.

The residents, appreciative of the outreach team’s visit, expressed relief at the reassurances provided, fostering a sense of confidence and unity in the face of regional concerns. The collaborative efforts of the police and regional authorities showcased a commitment to open communication and community engagement in addressing critical issues affecting the residents.
