In a significant breakthrough, authorities at the GNIC wharf in Georgetown successfully thwarted an alarming attempt at arms smuggling. The discovery unfolded on Friday during routine customs processing at approximately 14:20 hrs, revealing a cache of nine firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition concealed within a barrel.

The illicit shipment, sent from the USA via Laparkan, was addressed to a female resident of Guyhoc Park. Among the seized weapons were two Taurus pistols, a Glock 23, a Glock 40, a Roebuck Quad lock pistol, a Glock 19, a Luger pistol, a G3 Taurus pistol, and one RF-15 rifle. The total count of ammunition discovered reached a staggering 5,280 rounds.
The cunning concealment of firearms and ammunition among clothing and food items inside the barrel raised immediate concerns about the potential dangers associated with the importation of such weaponry. Upon the discovery, a man present at the wharf to receive the barrel was swiftly apprehended and is currently under intense questioning by authorities.
This incident sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in preventing the illegal trafficking of arms, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and security measures at international shipping points. The successful interception underscores the dedication of authorities to curbing the illicit trade of dangerous weapons and safeguarding the community from potential harm.
