Police Ranks in Division #2 Enhance Skills with ‘Trafficking in Person’ Training

Ranks within Regional Police Division No.2 recently underwent a comprehensive training session facilitated by the ‘Trafficking in Person’ Ministerial Task Force, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA). The training, held at the Division’s conference room in Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, aimed to equip officers with essential knowledge on various aspects of human trafficking.

Key topics covered during the training included the definition of Trafficking in Person, methods employed, identifying victims of TIP, the role of the Ministry of Human Services, relevant legislation, legal frameworks, and procedures for prosecuting suspects. Facilitators included Daniel Griffith, Coordinator of the TIP Unit at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and various experts from the field.

The opening and closing of the training saw remarks from Regional Police Commander Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran. He urged the participating ranks to apply the acquired knowledge effectively in identifying victims and suspects, emphasizing the importance of respecting individuals’ rights throughout the process. Commander Shivbaran underscored the need for a rights-centric approach to ensure justice without violating fundamental rights.
