Investigation Launched into Apparent Suicide at Providence Police Station
The Providence Police Station is under scrutiny as an investigation is initiated into the apparent suicide of 56-year-old Lloyd David, a mason from Eccles, East Bank Demerara. David had been taken into custody earlier in the afternoon on charges related to a report made by his 32-year-old wife.

The wife had visited the Providence Police Station around 14:00 hrs, alleging serious offenses, including the attempted rape of a minor. Subsequently, David was arrested, booked, and placed in the ‘lockup’ at the police station.
Shortly after his arrival, David reportedly assaulted another detainee, leading to medical attention for the injured person. Due to his violent behavior, he was isolated in a separate cell. Approximately thirty minutes later, shouts from a neighboring cell alerted authorities that David had “committed suicide.”
Upon inspection, police found David hanging from a makeshift ligature fashioned from his jersey tied to the lockup cell door. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned, but David was pronounced dead after they found no pulse. No visible signs of violence were observed on the exposed parts of his body.
Given the circumstances surrounding David’s death, the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has been engaged to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Authorities are committed to establishing the facts surrounding this tragic incident at the Providence Police Station.
