Man Apprehended for Possession of Suspected Forged Guyana Currency

In a recent ‘Stop and Search’ operation carried out in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station in West Berbice, law enforcement officers arrested an individual found in possession of a quantity of suspected forged Guyana currency.

The incident unfolded when a white motor car with license plate number PTT9098 overtook multiple vehicles on solid double lines, prompting the police to intervene. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Kenio Thomason, refused to produce relevant documents and behaved disorderly. In response, the police instructed Thomason to park at the Fort Wellington Police Station compound.

Upon searching Thomason’s person, the police discovered a quantity of suspected forged Guyana currency in $5,000 denominations. Thomason, upon learning of the offense, grabbed the forged currency from the hands of a police officer and attempted to flee. A brief chase ensued, during which Thomason discarded the suspected forged currency between bushes behind the police station.

The police apprehended Thomason, retrieved the forged currency amounting to $95,000, and officially arrested him. Thomason explained his actions by stating that he was trying to manage financial difficulties due to his girlfriend recently giving birth. The suspected forged currency was documented, marked, sealed, and secured as evidence.

Kenio Thomason is currently in custody and is expected to face charges related to the possession of the suspected forged currency.
