Major Drug Bust in Region10: 19,504 Grams of Marijuana Seized
In a significant law enforcement operation, police ranks from Mackenzie, Aroima, and Kwakwani Police Stations in Regional Division #10 conducted a river patrol on Friday, with a focus on the Kwakwani Water Front and Wiruni Creek in the Berbice River. The operation involved the region’s motorboat.
At approximately 3:00 PM on Friday, while engaging in discussions with residents of the Wiruni Creek community on the western bank, the police ranks made an unexpected discovery. They observed an individual fleeing from an incomplete wooden house and disappearing into the nearby bushes.
Quick to react, the police ranks initiated a pursuit, but the individual managed to evade capture. Undeterred, they decided to inspect the incomplete house, where they encountered a substantial quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems scattered across the floor, with some of the contraband concealed within a large black plastic bag. Additionally, an 8Hp Mercury outboard engine was discovered on the floor.
In the course of their operation, the police took possession of the suspected cannabis and the engine. The engine underwent documentation and marking and was securely lodged at the Kwakwani Police Station. The suspected cannabis, weighing an impressive 43 pounds, equivalent to 19,504 grams, was transported to the Mackenzie Police Station. There, it underwent further processing, including photography, marking, sealing, and secure storage, pending the ongoing investigations.
This operation reflects law enforcement’s dedication to combating illegal drug activities and preserving community safety in the region. The seized contraband represents a substantial quantity of marijuana that will be integral to ongoing investigations.
