In a significant law enforcement operation, police officers from Regional Division #3 conducted a mobile patrol on the Pouderyoen public road, West Bank Demerara, around 23:10 hrs last night. During the patrol, they observed two individuals acting suspiciously. The suspects were later identified as Shawn Collins, also known as ‘Gully, ‘ a 25-year-old Labourer from Charlestown, Georgetown, and Steffon Howard, a 23-year-old Labourer from East LaPenitance, Georgetown.

The police officers approached and conducted searches on both suspects. During the search, Shawn Collins was found in possession of a ‘lunch pack’ worn around his shoulder, inside of which was a black metal object resembling a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Notably, the serial number on the frame had been filed off. The firearm was loaded with a magazine containing fifteen 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Collins was duly informed of the alleged offense and cautioned, to which he responded, “Officer, I have this for my protection. ” Subsequently, he was placed under arrest.

The police took both men to the Vreed-en-Hoop Outpost along with the suspected firearm and ammunition for further processing.

While at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Outpost, Shawn Collins received a phone call on his cellular device. The police answered the call and heard an individual stating, “Hey, I’ve reached at the base where you all are. ” In response to this call, police officers proceeded to the Pouderoyen public road, where they encountered Shawn Dos Santos, a 27-year-old Labourer from South Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, sitting on a Grey 110cc Honda motorcycle.

The police officers called the number back, and Dos Santos’s cellphone rang. He was questioned and provided inconsistent statements to the police, leading to his subsequent arrest. He was then escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Outpost.

All three suspects, along with the seized exhibits, were later transferred to the Leonora Police Station, where they are currently in custody pending further investigation.

This operation underscores the dedication of law enforcement to address the presence of illegal firearms and ammunition in the community and to ensure public safety.
