Major Drug and Firearm Bust in Mon Repos Leads to Arrest of 21-Year-Old Resident

In a significant operation earlier today, a 21-year-old resident of Mon Repos Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara, was arrested by law enforcement authorities following the discovery of narcotics, a firearm, and ammunition in his possession.

Acting on received information, a Gazetted Officer and a team of police officers conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, with him present, for narcotics and firearms. During the search, the police discovered one transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis (marijuana) and one whitish rock-like substance believed to be cocaine. The suspect was informed of the alleged offenses, cautioned, arrested, and detained along with the suspected marijuana and cocaine.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol with two live matching rounds in the magazine in an area away from the suspect’s house. He was once again informed of the offenses committed. Subsequently, a search in another clump of bushes revealed a five-gallon bucket containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The suspect was informed of this additional offense and escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station, along with the suspected narcotics, firearm, and ammunition.

The narcotics found in the bucket were weighed and amounted to a substantial 3,532 grams. The suspected cannabis and cocaine were also weighed in the suspect’s presence, totaling 13 grams for cannabis and 0.5 grams for cocaine.

The seized firearm, ammunition, cannabis, and cocaine have been secured, and the suspect remains in custody pending further investigation and potential charges.

This operation highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies in combating illegal activities, including drug trafficking and firearm possession.
