Community outreach activities were carried out in Aroaima and Hururu villages, with a focus on engaging the local residents and school pupils in road safety awareness. The outreach, led by Assistant Superintendent Holder and supported by a team of police officers and Community Policing Group (CPG) members from Regional Division 10, took place on Wednesday, September 6.
During their visit to Aroaima and Hururu, the team had productive interactions with the community members, allowing them to voice their concerns. Assistant Superintendent Holder was joined by Sergeant Williams, Woman Corporal Whyte, Rural Constable Mohamed Rahin, and members from the Cops and Faith Community Network and Community Policing Group (CPG).

As part of their outreach efforts, the team encouraged residents to report any violations of the law to the police. Additionally, they made a compassionate gesture by presenting a hamper to Ravina Bahardo, the mother of the late Arian Dequey of Hururu Village, Upper Berbice River, on behalf of Regional Commander Superintendent G. Nurse and Deputy Commander Deputy Superintendent A. Austin.
The outreach also included an important educational component aimed at promoting road safety among Hururu Primary and Nursery school students. Approximately seventy students and six teachers participated in the event, where the following topics were discussed and emphasized:
- Proper road behavior (Curb Drill)
- The importance of wearing safety helmets for cyclists and motorcyclists
- The consequences of playing on roadways
- Wearing bright-colored clothing during nighttime hours
- Equipping pedal cycles with brakes, lights, and bells
- Awareness of the negative effects of drugs
Overall, the community outreach in Aroaima and Hururu villages served as a valuable opportunity to foster better relationships between the police and the local communities, while also promoting essential road safety knowledge among the young students.
