Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Complete over-seas training

Two Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) have excelled in an overseas course conducted in Brazil.

Staff Sergeants (SSGTs) Devendra Narine and Brian Wishart have recently returned to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) following their completion of the Diploma in Logistics and Mechanical Maintenance conducted at the Esie School of Logistics and Mechanical Maintenance, Realengo, Rio de Janeiro.

Upon their arrival, Chief of Staff Brigadier Omar Khan interacted with the SNCOs and congratulated them on their recent achievements. He also used the opportunity to reiterate the GDF’s pledge to support the development of ranks, which he believes aids the organization in achieving its objectives. The three-month course prepared the ranks with enhanced knowledge in the areas of logistics and procurement management.

That knowledge ultimately consolidates the GDF position with regard to automotive procurement. The course involved theoretical and practical aspects covering scenario-based assessments. While both ranks described their experience as challenging due to the language barrier, which made learning difficult, the SSGTs also described their experience in Brazil as unique. SSGT Wishart added that it was his first time being on an overseas course. “Despite the language barrier, this training was a unique one for me because it helped me better understand procurement, maintenance, and management of vehicle assets in the military operational theater,” he shared.Additionally, SSGT Narine also pointed out that it was his first time being on an overseas course.

Nevertheless, he was able to adjust and grasp the knowledge he garnered during the training. “Like my colleague, it was a first for me. Nevertheless, I adjusted and managed a lot of positive takeaways. The training and exposure were vital for me because it has broadened my knowledge of logistics scope based on procurement and management.
