Two hundred and forty-nine Reservists, drawn from various units and Drill Halls across the Force, are actively engaged in training at Reserve Annual Camp 2023, which is being held at Base Camp Seweyo, Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Unlike previous camp sessions, this year focuses on concentrated developmental training for Reservists who have been actively embodied within the Force or have consistently participated in training at their respective Drill Halls.
The camp will foster the development of Reservists who embody qualities of fitness, obedience, and discipline. These attributes are essential to effectively bolstering the regular force during peace and wartime.

Reservists hailing from all 10 administrative regions are engaged in Drills, Fieldcraft, Skill-at-Arms, Close Country Warfare, and Disaster Risk Management training for the duration of the camp. Following this period, they will conduct a skill display.
Commandant Guyana National Reserve Colonel Trevor Bowman, today formally declared the camp open at a simple ceremony. In his address, he urged the Reservists to pay keen attention to their Instructors, grasp as much knowledge as possible, and practice the skills taught. “You are integral to the defence, security and development of the Force and nation. Your service is even more critical in the context of our wider involvement in community-based activities,” he said.

He also reminded them of the values and standards of the GDF. “Remain disciplined and professional, and always strive to maintain a high level of integrity. This will ensure you remain valuable and respected members of this Force and society,” he charged.
